  Adult Programs



Please join us for a monthly Poetry Circle at the library in Shoreview. We will read and discuss several poems as well as have time for members to share your own poetry or your favorite poem. Bart Berlin will facilitate.



A new digital art series will begin this spring at the library in Roseville. The first exhibit features photographs from Chris Faust's collection, "Suburban Documentations," followed by Peter Latner and Stuart Klipper.

Stuart Klipper, Minneapolis native, has spent more than three decades photographing exhaustively all 50 states, which are all magnificently represented in this exhibition.

Images from Klipper's project will be displayed, using the new digital projection technologies, in the Roseville library atrium from June 1 through July 31.




Throughout the decades White Bear has been the place to relax and enjoy Minnesota's summer. Come and explore the recreational history of our community through illustrated stories of the White Bear Water Club, Tally’s Dockside, Wildwood Amusement Park and much more.



Explore downtown White Bear Lake! See what has changed and be surprised by so much that has remained the same! This illustrated program highlights many of White Bear’s popular businesses, focusing on Third Street, Banning Avenue and Fourth Street.



The communities around White Bear Lake have a long history of quality education. Come explore the early days of education in the White Bear and Mahtomedi School Districts, the innovative buildings and programs as well as several notable and influential leaders such as early special education teacher, Hattie Long.


These programs are funded with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.




Bill Schwietz, author of The Gladstone Shops of the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad, will discuss the history and architecture of the shops which were built in 1888 and demolished in 1979.

  Teen Programs
    Programming for ages 12 to 19


Wii, PS3, board games and general zaniness are at Maplewood every Thursday. Snacks are always provided.



Xbox 360 suites are available to use whenever the library in Roseville is open thanks to a generous donation from Best Buy. Get controllers from the teen desk and have fun playing the latest games.



This isn't your English teacher's poetry group. Come meet other poets and poetry-lovers, share your writing and explore what makes poems work.



Suburban Community Channels and Ramsey County Library present an introduction to video production for teens. Video Boot Camp will give you the power to envision, film and edit your own movie. Please plan to attend all three days of the workshop. Enroll online or contact Teen Librarian Amy.

Do you ever wonder how comic book artists computerize their drawings to color and print them? We'll use Raven to turn sketches or photographs into digital art that can be turned into comic books, cartoons, T-shirts and more. Enroll online or contact Teen Librarian Marcus.

Learn how to use the Flip cameras to shoot and edit your own movies. Enroll online or contact Teen Librarians Marcus (Roseville and Shoreview) and Amy (Maplewood).

Couldn't make the class you wanted to try? Want to keep working on a project you started, or try creating something on your own? Drop by an open lab! The scanner, digital audio recorders, flip cameras and laptop lab will be available.

As you create Scratch projects, you'll learn important mathematical ideas, while also learning to think creatively, reason systematically and work collaboratively. Now that you're familiar with the basics of the Flip cameras and FlipShare, learn a more advanced editing program to take your movies to the next level. Enroll online or contact Teen Librarian Marcus.

Learn how to record and edit digital audio. Podcasts could be reviews of videogames or movies, interviews with celebrities or politicians, audio dramas or more. Enroll online or contact Teen Librarian Marcus.

Learn to edit and mash digital photos like a professional. Sample photos will be available to practice with, or you may bring some of your own. Enroll online or contact Teen Librarian Marcus.





Get reading this summer with Bookawocky, a celebration of summer reading!

All you have to do is read a book and tell us what you think of it. Each book review slip you return will be entered into a weekly prize drawing. Open to ages 13 through 19; 12-year-olds may choose to participate in either the children or teen program.

Don't forget to join the fun at Ramsey County Library's annual Summer Reading Program celebration on Saturday, June 18 at the library in Roseville. Teen programming will be from 2 to 4 p.m.

Manga Book Club heats up for the summer! Talk about manga! Watch the anime! Snacks always provided, witty remarks optional.



Take it easy and read with like minded comic book enthusiasts. Play great games, eat snacks and hang around in the Community Center's Polar Room!



Do you love comics? Reading them, drawing them or hearing about the comic industry? Join us once a month for special guests, classes and more. Free hot dogs and other snacks always provided. Sponsored by The Source Comic Book Club.

Learn Scratch at Comic Book Club on June 16

Ramsey County Library is pleased to offer basic computer courses to those who have little or no experience. You are welcome to attend all workshops in a series or pick and choose depending on your skill level. Participants wanting to take the e-mail or Internet courses must be mouse-proficient.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Beginning eBay - This class will teach you the basics on how to search, buy and sell items, how to evaluate sellers and explain methods of payment using eBay.

Beginning Digital Camera - Set your settings, learn your functions and see what "modes" really do. Bring your camera, fresh batteries, a memory card and your owner's manual.

Beyond the Basics - Add to your Internet searching skills. Learn ways to make your search more specific and be trained on spotting which web sites give reliable information.

* NEW * Digital Camera 102: Beyond the Basics - You'll learn MASP, exposure compensation, ISO and printing photos. Bring your camera, batteries, a memory card and your owner's manual.

* NEW * Digital Camera 103: Upload Your Photos - Transfer photos to a laptop and a CD; attach photos to e-mail and explore a photo sharing website. Bring your camera, batteries, a memory card with photos on it and your owner's manual.

Explore the Library's Web site - Take a tour of Ramsey County Library's Web site. Learn how to search the library catalog and access your account from home. You will also be introduced to the many resources and databases available to you from the Library's Web site.

Genealogy on the Web - This class provides an introduction to Ancestry.com--the Library edition. Ancestry is a starting point for people searching online for genealogy information. Other useful online and print resources will be highlighted.

Google: More Than a Search Engine - Learn to use Google to search the Web for images, news, maps, books, language translation and more!

Health and Wellness on the Web - Finding reliable health information can be difficult and time-consuming. This class introduces quality Internet resources and library databases to help answer your health and wellness related questions.

Internet Basics - A basic introduction to the Internet in a relaxed, supportive environment. Individuals will learn how to access the Internet, navigate within web sites and find information using a search engine.

Internet for Book Lovers - We'll help you find your next great read by exploring Novelist Plus and other books and reading Web sites.

Introduction to E-mail - Electronic mail is a great way to stay in touch with friends and family, wherever they are! Come and learn the basics of setting up a free Yahoo! e-mail account and sending and receiving e-mail.

Legal Information on the Web - This introductory class, presented by Sara Galligan, Director of Ramsey County Law Library, will describe new legal resources for the general public. It will highlight new Minnesota interactive legal forms such as the financial power of attorney and the health care directive. It will also describe new court resources,statutes and ordinances, and other basic legal information on the web.

Managing Your Yahoo! E-mail - Come and learn to attach files, create folders, manage your address book and more! Prerequisites: Intro to E-mail or must have a Yahoo! E-mail account.

Mastering the Mouse - If you have never used a mouse before, this course will introduce you to three basic skills: pointing, clicking and scrolling. Click here for the "Mousing Around" tutorial.

MP3 Players and Audiobooks - Learn how to find, download and transfer audiobooks to your MP3 player from the Library's audio eBooks collection.

Social Networking - Facebook combines the best of blogs, online forums, and pictures and connects people with others who work, study and live around them. All that's needed is a valid E-mail account to get started. If you have a wireless laptop, feel free to bring it to class.

Travel on the Web - Where do you want to go? How do you want to get there? Where do you want to stay when you arrive? Find out how the Internet can expand your horizons for travel and even save you money.

When applying for jobs, you need to make sure your resume stands out from all the rest. This class will help you improve your skills in writing a resume and cover letter, and offer tips and ideas for customizing them for a specific job opening.


The job market has changed dramatically in the last few years, and the process of looking for a job, from finding job openings to getting hired, can be challenging. This class will offer tips for your job search, as well as strategies to help you stay employed in the current economy.
